Just Peachy

What a wonderful experience it was to make my first ever batch of peach jam.

God really is so wonderful.

This week at the children's vbs at a friends church, I met Merry. She was serving as a helper for Graysen and Gwynni's group. As we began chatting we found we shared many similar interests as we were chatting about childhood farm living, chickens, gardening, and canning. She invited me to her home yesterday and was gracious as she walked me through the steps of making peach jam. Merry and her husband Jim have a couple of peach trees in their backyard that give them an abundance of peaches many of which are canned to keep up with the fullness of the trees production.

One of the best blessings about this experience is meeting Merry. Anyone can google how to can, but its not everyday one makes a friend like Merry. As I took skin off peaches that soaked in an ice bath, then chopped them, measured, stirred, added sugar and pectin; We laughed, shared life experiences, talked about Faith, family, gardening, chickens, and jam. Merry is "merry" as her name implies, she has a permanant smile and a kind heart. I am thankful for her willingness to share her time and knowledge in canning, a skill I have wanted to learn for some time. Yay for canning and a new friend, this week has been just peachy.
